Fellow Oregonians: We-The-People need Representatives to Represent again!
Abraham Lincoln on November 19, 1863 said in the conclusion of the Gettysburg Address; “we here highly resolve these dead shall not have died in vain; that the nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom, and that government of the people by the people for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”
It took a little more than 100 years for the government of Oregon, as well as many other States, to convert Of-By-and-For the People to Of-By-and-For the government. This was done before our very eyes through the use of benefits such as pensions, healthcare, insurance, or any number perks that are being used to lure employees to work for any given employer across this Nation. Benefits that are designed to generate commitment and loyalty to your employer.
Lincoln was completely correct that our government is Of-By-and-For the People. However, we must understand that the government does NOT “Work for the People”. The government works for the People we elect and the People the Elected appoint to office.
By treating Elected office holders as if they are employees of the government, their loyalty and commitment is to the government that gives them everything. In Oregon, the elected office holder’s hopes, dreams, and futures are in the hands of their employer; The government.
The key and the ONLY way to get our Elected and Appointed office holders to Represent the People again is converting them all to what I call “Independence Contractors”. Just like any other contractor that might install a new kitchen or fix your plumbing, contractors only receive money for their services, that’s all. It is important to note that having our elected and appointed office holders have their hopes, dreams, and futures is the same place that the rest of the populus have their hopes, dreams, and futures. This is the only way that Representatives will protect the People from the government instead of protecting the government from the People.
Every elected and appointed office holder would NOT receive anything else but money. No healthcare insurance, no retirement pension, no time toward PERS pensions, or any other perks that go along with being a government employee. Except for maybe a parking spot with your name on it, you would receive nothing else but a check that starts two months before and one month after you are in office. No unemployment benefits either.
There isn’t anything wrong with working for the government as a profession. The only difference would be that instead of partners in crime, the Elected and Appointed would be your boss. There is something wrong with representing the government instead of the People as an elected or appointed official. “Independence Contractors” really is the only way to stop the stupidity and bring back commons sense.
Our Representatives will only be “Great Again” when their hopes, dreams, and futures are one-and-the-same as
We-the-People.
