Fellow Oregonians:
We-The-People need “Independence Contractors”!
Abraham Lincoln said in the conclusion of the Gettysburg Address; “that we here highly resolve these dead shall not have died in vain; that the nation, shall have a new birth of freedom, and that government of the people by the people for the people, shall not perish from the earth.” However, we must ask a simple question. Who does the government “WORK” for? The government does NOT work for the People, the government works for the People WE Elect and the People the Elected appoint to office.
It took a little more than 100 years for governments in Oregon and several other States to figure out how to convert a “government of the people by the people for the people” to a government “of the government by the government for the government” via compensation based on pensions, healthcare, insurance, and any number of benefits to the People we elect and subsequently appoint. Loyalty to the government has been bought by the government and paid for by the taxpayer.
The only way to get our Elected and Appointed office holders to Represent the People again is converting them all to “Independence Contractors”. The government pays them money, but that is all. Every elected and appointed office holder would NOT receive anything else. No healthcare insurance, no retirement pension, no time toward PERS pensions, or any other perks that go along with being a government employee. Except for maybe a parking spot with your name on it, you would receive nothing else but a check that starts two months before and one month after you are in office. AND you are responsible for paying your own taxes and must write a check to the IRS and a check to Oregon for how-ever much you must pay each quarter on taxes.
There is not anything wrong with working for the government as a profession. There is something wrong with representing the government instead of the People as an elected or appointed official.
